One of the many free services provided by the Counseling Center is outreach to the NMSU campus community. One or two staff members can come to your class, group, organization, or event and present on a topic of your choice that fits your needs. We have staff qualified to present on a variety of topics, so you can submit a request for a topic you would like us to cover, and we will let you know if it is a presentation we can provide or if another office or agency might be able to better meet your need. Presentations/workshops range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

Unique to our center, we also offer a team-building low ropes course for student groups and classes aimed at building communication skills and problem-solving skills. The course entails a number of engaging and fun activities that are facilitated by Counseling Center staff. Ropes courses are offered throughout the academic year and usually run about 45 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the size of the group. Requests are managed on a case by case basis depending on staff availability.

***Requests must be received at least three (3) weeks in advance of the requested presentation date.

***We ask that if you request a presentation/workshop, that you assist us in guaranteeing at least 10 people in attendance for the requested presentation/workshop.

We will make every effort to fulfill your request, but there may be instances when we are unable to present because of a lack of staff availability at the particular time requested. You will be promptly informed if we will be unable to fulfill your request.

What Happens After the Outreach Request Is Made?

Once your request is received, the Counseling Center will follow-up with you to let you know if we will be able to fulfill your request. You will be connected to staff member(s) who will present the outreach. Depending on how far in advance you make your request, it may take some time to determine which staff member(s) will be available to present, so please be patient with confirming outreach requests.
